Welsh Segregation Regulations
The way businesses handle waste in Wales is changing and below is an explanation of what is changing and how we can help.
As Wales aims to become a zero-waste nation by 2050. To align with this goal, in 2009 the Welsh Government launched its Scheme for Sustainable Development, in which the target was outlined to create a circular economy and increase recycling rates to 70% by 2025. From business owners to residents, every sector in Wales now has a duty to help Wales become a nation committed to recycling.

DMR IS A THING OF THE PAST!
As from April 2024 you will no longer have a bin with mixed recycling, it will be mandatory to segregate your waste at source. We can provide smaller bins or even bags if you don't produce much waste with a particular waste stream.
GENERAL WASTE
The rules for general waste are also changing, with the emphasis on separated waste will no longer be allowed to be incinerated. In addition wood waste will be banned form going to landfill.
WHY ARE THE GOVERNMENT INTRODUCING NEW CHANGES?
The changes are not only focused on improving the quality and quantity of recycling but are vital to delivering Wales’s commitments to reach zero waste and reduce our carbon emissions by 2050.
The aim is to keep materials in use for as long as possible, which brings with it significant economic opportunities. With the cost of materials rising, more effectively keeping high quality materials that can then go back into the economy and support our supply chains will bring savings. For example by avoiding landfill tax and creating job opportunities.
The Regulations implement a number of actions to increase the quality and quantity of recycling which are included in the Welsh Government’s Circular Economy Strategy for Wales,
